Valuing social capital in disasters

Professor Daniel Aldrich generously shared his knowledge and research about building social capital and the important role it plays in disaster resilience and reducing shocks and stresses in a recent forum we were pleased to co-sponsor.

Co-hosted by Deakin University ADI, ResilientCo and The Catalyst Network, the forum titled "Essential but unseen: The role of social capital and social infrastructure in shocks" featured Professor Aldrich, with contributing panellists Brett Ellis ESM and Carol Corzo.

Daniel’s focus on the undervalued role that social businesses and community spaces and social capital play in reducing the impact of shocks and stresses in communities resonated with the great group of attendees.

Thanks to Daniel, and to Josie Gibson and Professor Stephane Shepherd for facilitating and co-hosting.
