Providing training for community members to help with self activation in the event of an emergency has been a real focus for our team this year.
Recently the team spent time with the Healesville Community Recovery Group to deliver Community Emergency Hub training.
In a resource-constrained environment where agencies are often unable to immediately access communities at risk of geographical isolation, it is important to provide people with the tools and resources for self-activation before the cavalry arrives.
Community Emergency Hub training explores:
The Community Hub concept
Activation triggers and considerations when opening the Hub
Asset mapping to consider impacts into community assets, essential infrastructure, resources available
Roles and responsibilities
A practical exercise to work through the Guidelines and “Hub Tub”
The Healesville Community Recovery Group was formed after the Black Saturday Fires. They are a proactive and community group, demonstrated through the maturity of networks, arrangements and programs already developed by the group.
