NEW TRAINING: wellbeing in emergencies

We’ve developed a new training session with disaster recovery expert and clinical psychologist David Younger. This one is specifically designed for those who work in local government.

The session acts as an introduction to emergency management in Victoria, articulating roles and responsibilities of local government and providing an overview of the sector.  More importantly, it provides a deeper dive into personal wellbeing during a disaster, equipping staff with mind-body and trauma informed science tools and resources.

Why does it focus on local government?

Local Government employees are often faced with challenges in supporting themselves, colleagues and their communities when undertaking emergency management functions in addition to their business-as-usual (BAU) roles.

During our time working in and with Local Government, we have both experienced and witnessed the devastating effects on employee wellbeing and the flow on impacts to an organisation when the workforce is not adequately prepared.

Outcomes:

This training session is designed to provide staff with a detailed understanding of the role of Local Government in an emergency, equipping staff with mind-body science as well as trauma informed tools and resources. Key aims are to minimise the risk of harm and psychological injury, strengthening of personal wellbeing before, during and after emergency events, all while ensuring continuity of service to communities.

Campaspe Shire Council was the first to undertake the training.

We're planning for 2025. If you’re interested in learning more, or want to express interest in attending or hosting the training, drop Michelle Richards a line michelle@resilientco.au or hello@resilientco.au
